Italian Climate
Italy has a Mediterranean climate, they have cold, wet winters and dry, hot summers. Italian winters are normally cool and moist near the mountain ranges. Sometimes cold air from the northern part of Europe can move into Italy, bringing snow to most mountains. Meanwhile the Italian coasts stay warm because of high sea temperatures. In certain areas of the ranges the climate can drop to below freezing in the winter and rise to 30° in the summer.
The area of the Po valley and the Padan Plain has its own unique climate. This area can experience rain at any time through the year. The winter months can be extremely cold and foggy and can experience frost and snow. The summer months can be almost as hot and sunny as southern Italy. Thunderstorms are frequent in the summer and autumn but the rain falls infrequently.
